An Old Friend is a New House

Southend-on-Sea and its surrounding area is diverse and, being part of a seaside town, “has a fascinating history shaped by a number of practical, social and commercial factors. It has experienced periods of both organic growth and planned expansion, particularly responding to the arrival of new railway and road access.”

With this constant change and adaptation our local area is home to many amazing buildings both residential and commercial with ornate architecture, sash windows and of course, stained glass windows.

Obviously over time windows become damaged and the surrounding woodwork weathered, particularly when you consider some have been in place for well over 100 years!

The DG Group, Dawes and Green and DG Servicing, not only embrace new technology but we love renovating properties to preserve their character and one which way is to blend the past with present.

Along with our extensive years of experience and expertise, we can, have and do renovate these ‘old’ windows. Together, we provide service, repair, and refurbishment where every detail is meticulously considered from the repair to reinstall. However, this is wholly dependent upon preference and, on occasion, there is no alternative other than to replace.

As part of any overhaul of windows on any property, Dawes and Green and DG Servicing will remove existing stained glass, repair any defects and refurbish so that it is in keeping with every piece of glass, then finally encapsulating the original piece for protection.

Put simply, the stained glass panel is sealed inside a double glazed unit to form three layers of glass and provide protection of the original stained glass.
This not only ensures any residential or commercial property is maintained as the original architect intended it, but also improves on insulation for your home or property, conforming to consistent changes in building regulations. Not only that, you will never have to clean the stain glass again as it is protected from the environment and other variables.

All of this and more is of course particularly important, and resolutely highlighted when you consider our area’s very own Conservation Area, where strict regulations are in place to ensure continued continuity, appearance and aesthetics to each and every building, thus adhering to guidelines.
